East truly meet West in the music of the
multi-talented Tomoyasu Hotei, Japan's leading rock guitarist and producer. Hotei
started out as a guitarist in the legendary rock band "BOøWY" and has since
remained in the top ranks of the Japanese rock scene throughout his entire musical
career, even after he went solo.
The last few years saw Hotei branch out of the musical field into the realm of
the big screen as an actor. He starred in "Samurai Fiction", a film by Hiroyuki
Nakano, and "Battle Without Honor or Humanity", a Junji Sakamoto film. Not only
did he give a riveting performance, he also served as the musical director to
the films, producing all of the music for the films and the soundtracks.
While his activities are mostly based in Japan, he has made appearances in several
overseas festivals such as Belfort and Roskilde. If his name sounds familiar,
this may be due to the fact that his previous album Supersonic Generation was
released in 14 countries across Europe in the year 2000.
