Hotei joined SAS Band, the all star band created by Queen’s keyboard player Spike Edney, as special guest for two shows this week, at the Guildhall in Portsmouth and at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London. Hotei performed two of his own songs – “Battle” and “Freedom in The Dark” – and joined Jamie Moses and Justin Hawkins (The Darkness) for the “29 Riff” performance, where they performed 29 of the best known guitar riffs of all time. After that, Hotei joined in the finale song, an epic cover of George Harrison’s “Where My Guitar Gently Weeps”.

Arguably the highlight of the London show, which was in aid of the Mercury Phoenix Trust charity,  was Hotei performing two songs with Roger Taylor from Queen, who was surprise very special guest. Roger sang whilst his son, Rufus, played drums and they performed David Bowie’s “Heroes” and  Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll”.

Alongside the all star band, also on stage were guests Justin Hawkins from The Darkness, Midge Ure from Ultravox and Live Aid fame, the iconic Toyah Wilcox, Graham Gould from legendary British art rockers 10CC, US singer Patti Russo, Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet, US performer Kip Winger and soul star Madeline Bell.
